Rwanda Gospel Stars Live: A spectacular showcase of talent and passion

On Saturday, March 16th, 22 contestants took part in the Rwanda Gospel Stars Live competition that was held in Musanze.

Despite the low turn up and delay in auditions due to contestants arriving late, there was an amazing display of talent that captivated the audience with outstanding performances.

The judging panel was led by Nelson Mucyo, Camarade Holy and Grace Mbabazi, all of whom are influential figures on the gospel music scene.

Mucyo kicked off the auditions with encouraging words, urging contestants to overcome fear and emphasizing the criteria for success which he said consisted of talent, performance, and goals.

Each participant was given 90 seconds to showcase their talent, with an option of using instruments like piano and guitar while ensuring their voices remained prominent.

The contestants exhibited various strengths including impressive stage presence. Notably, contestant Christian Muhire expressed a unique goal of integrating ‘drill elements’ into gospel music to engage secular-minded youth.

During the auditions, some contestants received support from individuals like Daniel Niringiyimana, who provided Serge Ngoga with a written song and assistance for its production. Additionally, Rukundo Gentil, though his project wasn’t gospel-focused, received assurance for advocacy to have his song played during the Genocide memorial period.

Following the presentations, 13 contestants were selected to advance to the next session, with some progressing directly based on their performance and others engaging in pair battles for further advancement.

Among the chosen contestants, Parfait Ishimwe, Christian Muhire, and Serge Ngoga stood out prominently with their exceptional performances.

While closing, Mucyo emphasized the importance of investing in Rwanda Gospel Stars Live and its talented youth, highlighting their potential to shape the future of gospel music with adequate support and resources.
