Love that Disciplines

Hebrews 12:5-6 You have also forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as sons: “My son, do not disdain the discipline of the Lord or lose heart when reproved by him; for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines; he scourges every son he acknowledges.”

When something unpleasant happens to us, we often attribute it to the works or attacks of the enemy. We then pray to God for help and strength to ease our discomfort. It is a natural course of action, as His children to call out to Him in times of trouble. But has it ever come to mind that we’re being disciplined by the Heavenly Father? Have we ignored Him, forsook reading His Word or neglected His commands? Have we compromised our biblical principles and beliefs so that God allowed misfortune to occur in order to gain our undivided attention.

We then face the consequences in order to bring the necessary changes and correction into our lives. Discipline always seems painful rather than pleasant at the time, but it later yields fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it (verse 11). Do not reject or take lightly the discipline of the Lord. Not every difficulty we encounter is a chastisement of God. However, we can be sure He will discipline us because He loves us.
