Anxiety weighs down the human heart, but a good word cheers it up. – Proverbs 12:25
When I was a new nurse at the hospital, I would prepare myself for battle before every shift . I would think about the worst-case scenario and try to prepare myself. However this would cause me to overthink simple situations, and it would cause me added stress.
By God’s grace, I had a senior colleague in my ward that imparted indispensable knowledge and taught me how to handle difficult people and situations. He never overreacted and was always gentle in his approach. Time and time again, I would watch him help patients and their loved ones. He was a master at giving good counsel while not offering empty promises. Anxiety weighs down any person, but a good word of comfort soothes and relieves.
I realized that we might not be the most intelligent or skilled person in our workplace or at home, but if we can share a word of encouragement, we can have a positive impact while being a blessing to others.
