Since June 27, at least 15 local gospel artistes have been encouraging their fans to vote and support their proposed projects in Rwanda Gospel Stars Live, a three-month drive aimed at supporting artistes doing gospel music amid the effects caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.

The contest runs from June 27 to September 30.

It includes 10 renowned gospel artistes and choirs, and some 5 up-coming artistes selected to do curtain-raising performances during the live shows on the TV.

At the end of the drive, the contestants will undergo a one-week boot camp to get training sessions on music entrepreneurship and music business and their proposed projects will be evaluated, and those that emerge among the top three will get funding.

According to the organisers, Rwanda Gospel Stars Live presents a unique contemporary innovation that seeks to discourage the rising migration of Gospel singers from Gospel to secular music; while promoting a lifestyle of worship, love, hope, as well as touching lives and lifting the name of God. It also seeks to build long lasting network between Rwanda Gospel music and the Private sector.

In this article, The Gospel Time Rwanda gathered some information about the contestants and their projects. Take a read:

  1. Clementine Uwitonze, Known as Tonzi

Uwitonze is a Rwandan gospel artiste. She started singing at the age of five and she has been in the ministry for more than 30 years. She grew up in a Christian family. So far, she has 7 Albums.

Her project is titled, Toza Ibyiza New Generation” and it intends to train, nurture and educate young children so as they grow up with Godly values as well as instilling positive character in their daily lives.

  1. James and Daniella

James and Daniella is a married gospel Duo with 3 kids. The couple has a passion to communicate the Gospel of Jesus Christ through their gift of singing.

The couple’s project is titled, Fountain (Isoko)” and it intends to bring people (mainly drug addicts and prisoners) to the true fountain which will bring the true change and assist them make a living after being made alive again spiritually!

  1. Aline Gahongayire

Gahongayire grew up in a family of artistes, and she started singing at the age of 12. She has been doing solo music for 12 years with more than 10 Albums and has ministered in different countries. She is passionate for charity activities; therefore, she started a Non-Government Oraganisation called NDINEZA. She is also an entrepreneur working in the field of Marketing and Communication and Fashion for 10 years.

Her project is titled “Mizawadi Ya Africa” and it intends to raise awareness, listen and speak out against sexual abuse among young girls and boys in our community.

  1. True Promises Ministries

True Promises Ministries is a faith-based group of singers founded in 2009 by a team of young girls and boys from different denominations. The team’s vision is to build the Kingdom of God through True worship, True Prayer and learning the word of Truth. To date, the group has grown and opened branches in the region and outside Africa. True Promises has been ministering in the country and neighboring countries including the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kenya and Burundi. The team became very popular in the country after releasing the “Mana Urera” song. True Promises has been organizing large crusades in the country and in 2019 featured Bishop Benjamin Dube, a well-known gospel singer from South Africa, at a major live concert in Kigali.”

The team’s project is Supporting Teen Mothers”. The project aims to firstly heal and comfort beneficiaries through the Word of God. Also, teen mothers will be educated and empowered through vocational training where they will acquire sewing skills, and helped to form saving groups. Also, the choir plans to provide machines to beneficiaries to enable them earn income to raise their children and empower themselves financially.

  1. Israel Mbonyicyambu, known as Israel Mbonyi.

Mbonyi is a born again Christian and musician with a mission of spreading the Good news of Christ through his melody. He started his career at a young age and so far he has 3 albums with more than 50million streams.

Mbonyi’s project is Buying music equipment”. The musician dreams of owning musical equipment that will help him to tour cities and villages to accomplish his mission of spreading Gospel effectively. The full set contains a full built in stage, a backline and the sound system.

  1. Gisubizo Ministries

Gisubizo ministry is a registered not for profit organization that proclaims gospel news.

The Ministry’s project is “Education Support”. Under the project, the team plans to support children from deprived families to access TVET education.

  1. Dieudonne Mugema, known as MD.

Mugema is a born again Rwandan Gospel Rapper, and song writer. He is also a youth pastor at Light Church Kabuga. His rapping style reflects his love for hip-hop music. So far, he has 27 songs and won three groove awards as “the best hip-hop song of the year” in different years. On February 2010, MD’s song “Mu rugo” won the award of “fighting drugs, early pregnancy and illiteracy in Masaka district. On December 2017, he represented the country in Kenya during “Groove awards”.

His project is titled, From Trash to Life.” MD plans to help at least 100 street children by preparing them for reintegration into families, going back to school and held them discover their hidden potentials.

  1. Kingdom of God Ministries

Kingdom of God Ministries is a group of singers with a vision to seek first the kingdom of God and God’s righteousness and proclaim it to others. The team started in 2011.

The team’s project is “Supporting former IWAWA children”. They plan to provide financial support to those children to create their own jobs.

  1. Irene Kamanzi, known as Gaby Kamanzi

Kamanzi is a born-again Christian and Fifth born in her family of 6. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management. God called her in 1997 to spread the good news through praise and worship. She released her debut album in 2003.

Her project is, Vocal coaching.”  Under her project, she wants to train other people who want to improve their music capacity.

  1. Serge Iyamuremye

Serge Iyamuremye is a gospel singer and Christian at Evangelical Restoration Church Masoro.

His project: One Spirit.

  1. Gisele Nsabimana, known as Gisele Precious

Precious was born in Kigali, in a family of 7 children. She is the fifth born of Pastor Phillip Nsabimana and Florentine Nyiranzanira.

Her project is “Girl Power Initiative.” The project is linked to her personal experience including challenges she faced as a young gospel musician. Precious’s plan is to find talented girls out in the community, and help them by directing their talents into the right channels.

  1. Dorcas and Vestine

Dorcas and Vestine (sisters) is a fast-rising gospel music duo Vestine Ishimwe and Dorcas Kamikazi (Vestine and Dorcas). Their debut song “Nahawe Ijambo” has trended most and gathered over 1,300,000 views on YouTube in just two months. Dorcas and Vestine are students in Secondary school.

The duo’s project is to “build a studio”. They plan to build a music studio that will help them and other gospel artistes to make their products.

  1. Columbus Nduwayo, known as Rata Jah Naychan

Nduwayo is recording gospel artiste, worship leader in various music genres such as reggae and dance hall, afro fusion, gospel contemporary music… He ministered on the same stage with Christafari band, Don Moen, among other local gospel artistes.

His project is titled, “Columbus Inc.”  The project intends to empower young generation in Rwanda.

  1. Annette Murava

Murava is a born-again Christian at the Living Church of Jesus Christ. She is a worshipper, song writer, intercessor, and a leader.

Her project is, “Gathering up the Broken Pieces Ministry (gbpm.) This project is based on John 6:12 where Jesus urged His disciples to gather up broken pieces scattered all over the place after feeding 5,000 people so that nothing is lost. Murava wants to conduct healing and counseling activities to broken hearts.

  1. Frank Nitezeho, known as Aime Frank.

Nitezeho is a student at university.

His project is, “Ejo Ni Heza Studio Production.”
