“But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms maybe done in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” – Matthew 6:3-4
As campaigns for charities and organizations are vying for public donations, prospective donors are constantly inundated with advertisements asking for support. For me, giving is very personal as it is a selfless act. It is sharing and imparting something we have that is of value to us. But the true definition and essence of giving are found in this passage. This is why I don’t like publicly giving like it is a popularity or recognition contest. Indeed nothing escapes from the eyes of the Lord. He sees everything. So when you give and help, do it cheerfully (2 Corinthians 9:7), and wholeheartedly without expecting anything in return. Try to be under the radar and if possible, do it anonymously. Don’t practice piety to be seen by others for there is no reward in it (verse 1 and 5-6). Give in secret and our Father in heaven who sees in secret will reward you
